Brain Hemisphere Synchronization

The brain is a biochemical/electrical structure, and emits measurable electrical waves tied to specific mental states. It brain consists of a left and a right hemisphere. The left hemisphere concerns itself with thinking and logic that is practical and time oriented. The right side is rather abstract and non-logical; it is artistic, creative, and emotional.

Left and Tight Hemispheres

Depending on what we are doing, either the left or the right brain hemisphere functions more dominantly – this phenomenon is known as brain lateralization. Also by way of habit or profession, one hemisphere is utilized more than the other.  For instance, an accountant predominantly uses the left hemisphere compared to a musician or a painter whose right hemisphere will be more operational.

Obviously this picture is rather over simplified because the hemispheres are constantly interacting. They are connected by the corpus callosum which serves as a bridge between the two sides. This bridge can be exercised and developed so that it becomes a more capable conduit for communication between the hemispheres. The well known healer Edgar Cayce was found to have an unusually large corpus callosum.

Why is Hemispheric Synchronization Important?
When both hemispheres function together there is an increase in the mental fitness and improved cognitive functioning in general. Increased integration creates better performance. There are numerous studies that have proven the importance of synchronized brain activity not only in controlling moods and emotions and but also in maintaining optimal physiological balance. However, people with synchronized hemispheres are rare to find.

Brain Wave frequency and Hemispheric Synchronization
At lower brain wave frequencies both sides of the brain start to work in sync and communicate better with each other. The neurons and the brain cells begin to operate harmoniously in a coordinated manner. When this happens, you feel a sense of calm; the situation appears more manageable and you begin to feel in control.

Listening to music embedded with beats for brain wave entrainment can lead to increased hemispheric synchronization. This audio-induced hemispheric coherence produces an optimal state of holistic whole-brain synergy.
